2 Kings 19:14-16
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord.  And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.  Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God."
New International Version (NIV)
How will you handle the worst news of your life?  “We’re all just one phone call from our knees . . .”    Melanie and I remember the day we heard her parents were on a bus that crashed in the rain on the way to a Bill Gaither concert.  Her mom, Jo Freeman died that day along with six others in the crash.  When all of life caves in, what then?

After the Assyrians destroyed the northern Kingdom of Israel and Samaria the capital city, they turned their attention to Judah and Jerusalem.  Hezekiah, the King of Judah was a descendant of David who lived up to the best of his ancestry.  When he received the threatening letter, he went up to the house of the Lord and spread it out.  Then he prayed a prayer of deliverance expressing deep trust in God.

Sooner or later bad news comes to all of us.  When it comes, spread it out before the Lord.  Call out to him for strength and deliverance.  Trust him to take care of you.  During the first holy week, as Jesus taught in the Temple, he knew his adversaries were plotting.  Each night he went up to the Garden of Gethsemane and poured out his heart to the Father in prayer.  God worked through Jesus’ suffering to redeem the world.
Pray with me:
Father, today we bring all of our fears and concerns and sources of anxiety into your powerful presence.  Nothing is too difficult for you.  We trust you to intervene on our behalf.  Do whatever you will in our lives.  Let our pain and struggles drive us to our knees in your presence.  We wait for you Lord.  You are our only hope.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download

Joyfully,
