August GLMS Update
August 30, 2024
Welcome to the UofL School of Medicine Class of 2028!
Whether you’ve called Louisville home for a while or are new to our city, we look forward to serving as your local medical society throughout medical school and beyond. Please contact us at info@glms.org if you’d like to learn more about how to get involved with GLMS.
Update your information!
If you’ve noticed that you’re not receiving the Louisville Medicine magazine, we may need an updated home mailing address for you. To be added to the distribution list, please contact kathryn.vance@glms.org to confirm that we have your correct information.
Thank you to this year’s GLMS Delegates and all of our members who attended this year’s KMA Annual Meeting last weekend! GLMS submitted 13 resolutions this year, with 12 being adopted into KMA policy and one being referred to the Board of Trustees. We appreciate your help in making positive changes for Kentucky. We will be communicating over the next few months about our fall Policy & Advocacy meeting to prepare for the 2025 legislative session.

Louisville Medicine upcoming themes:
November – The Digital Revolution: Exploring Technology in Medicine – due 10/1
Technology is revolutionizing medicine, giving us the ability to diagnose and treat like never before. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has found its way into clinics, ERs and ORs across the country in many different formats. How have you integrated new tech into your daily practice? What tech changes do you see on the horizon for your specialty? As we increase tech usage, what ethical and regulatory considerations need to be made
December – Physician, Healer, Advocate: Embracing the Roles of Medicine – due 11/1
Being a physician is so much more than simply diagnosing illnesses and prescribing treatments. It’s building a relationship with a patient and empowering them to take control of their own health and wellness. What does it mean to you to be a physician? Why is that role important to you? What parts of your job bring you satisfaction?
January – Beyond Borders: Health Care Around the World – due 12/1
February – Prescribing Change: Your Personal Journey with Advocacy – due 1/1
Please reach out to Kathryn Vance at kathryn.vance@glms.org if you’d like to share your thoughts in an upcoming issue.
With the ever-changing health care landscape, having a constant is important. Belonging to organized medicine offers a way to connect, learn, advocate and collaborate for the betterment of health care delivery and patient outcomes. This month, we’re looking at why our members believe being involved in organized medicine is more important now than ever before. Read more here.
Dr. Who!
Dr. Mini Das was drawn to cardiology during her rotations because it just made sense to her, “two plus two equals four…most times.” When she first heard about cardio-oncology in early 2020, she was intrigued and hooked almost instantly. With Baptist Health, she focuses on the heart health of patients receiving cancer treatments, and says she is humbled by the determination and fight of the patients she treats. Read more about her story in this month’s Dr. Who here.
