Numbers 14:5-9
The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites."
New International Version (NIV)
What was the largest inheritance ever?  Sam Walton’s three kids reportedly divided $100 billion.  David and Charles Koch, two brothers control about $95 billion.  Imagine how much money their heirs will divide?  Then there is Leona Helmsley who left her dog named Trouble a total of $12 million.  What will you inherit?  So many in our world stand to inherit nothing.

When the Israelites divided up the promised land, the tribe of Levites received no land at all.  The other tribes each took their places in the landscape of the promised land.  God fed the Levites from the temple offerings.  But what about their inheritance?  God said, “I will be your inheritance.  I will be your portion.”

Am I wrong to think that the Levites got the best deal of all?  Everyone else’s inheritance could grow or decline, depending on the weather and crops.  They could gamble it or give it away to others or lose it through a settlement.  But not the Levites.  God was their inheritance.  No one could ever take God away from them.

As a follower of Jesus, know that this is your Father’s world.  He owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  Not only do you belong to the Lord because he bought you at the price of his own blood, but the Lord is your portion, as well.  We will never know that God is all we need until we realize God is all that we really have.  No one, and I mean no one can take God away from you or you away from God.  Rejoice in your inheritance today!

Pray with me:
Father, you alone are our portion.  We place all of our trust in you because of your kindness to us.  Thank you that you are and always will be enough for our souls.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
