INFORMATION & UPDATES

Diversity Forum for Student Affairs Staff
Miami has been reflecting on its diversity and inclusion goals related to race and ethnicity and its progress toward meeting them.  As part of that process, we have been working with consultants from EducationCounsel to examine our current efforts, learn about promising practices from other campuses, and identify possible strategies for making additional progress.  This meeting for Student Affairs staff members will be a chance to share your perspectives about the Miami experience, and will inform the consultants’ recommendations for the future.

NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP)
I am currently recruiting undergraduate students to join the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP)! NUFP is a mentoring program for students interested in exploring the field of student affairs and  who identify as a member of a traditionally underrepresented or historically disenfranchised student population, including, but not limited to Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino(a), Indigenous (Native American, Alaskan, Hawaiian), Multiethnic, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, or as having a disability. Here is the link to the application which is due for Spring enrollment on Friday, May 13th! If you know students who are interested and would benefit from this program, please send me their names and encourage them to apply!  If you have questions about the program, please contact Courtney Wallace at wallacc5@miamioh.edu. Thanks for your support in being intentional about diversifying the field of student affairs!

February - Student Affairs Good News Report
The Student Affairs Good News Report was submitted to the Board of Trustees as part of the February Board of Trustees Meeting. The Student Affairs directors all submit information for the report.  It's a great way to let the board know what we are doing in Student Affairs.
New Student Programs NOW Office of Orientation and Transition Programs
As of March 28, 2016, the Office of New Student Programs is now the Office of Orientation and Transition Programs.

We are excited to announce our new office name, which more closely aligns to our mission and work. By changing to our new name of Orientation and Transition Programs, the office will be more recognizable to public audiences seeking out information about Miami’s orientation programs. The transition portion of the name reflects the office's mission to support student transitions through a variety of support and programming such as Welcome Week, UNV 101 first-year and transfer courses, the UNV 101 undergraduate associate program, and the Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) program.

Tech Tip of the Week

From Jen O'Brien
TIP: Use the Miami Directory Chrome Extension for easy access to searching for people, unique IDs, office locations and phone numbers in the directory.
WHY: Rather than open up a new tab or page, navigating to a miami page, and then typing in your search, use the little “M” that falls to the right of the Address Bar in Google Chrome.
HOW? This little extension should already be installed, but if you happen to not have it on your computer, get it now from the Google Chrome web store (free). It's the beveled M logo next to the address bar in Google Chrome. Simply click the logo for a pop-up search bar
