Past to Present: Pride Month Amid Current Events

Each June, Pride Month is celebrated to remember and commemorate the 1969 New York City Stonewall Riots; a milestone in the LGBTQ Rights movement. For more information, check out the recently released PBS American Experience documentary - Stonewall Uprising: The Year That Changed America now streaming freely online. Reflecting on this historic moment is particularly timely as we witness continued acts of racial violence and police brutality in our nation, and the ensuing protests calling for justice and equality for African Americans and People of Color.
The Medical Library is deeply committed to being an inclusive, fair, and unbiased center of information and to treating all of our colleagues, students, and members of the local community with kindness, compassion, and respect regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, language, nationality, ability status, political beliefs, or religion.
This month we are showcasing quality online health information resources on minority and LGBTQ health and eBooks discussing historical and current issues of race and racism in medicine.

Highlighted Quality Health Information Resources Online:

MedlinePlus - From the National Library of Medicine, MedlinePlus is our number one recommended online resource for quality health information for you and your family.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) - The CDC is a go-to online resource for information on diseases and conditions and is especially important now during COVID-19 pandemic:
Office of Minority Health (US Department of Health & Human Services) is "dedicated to improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of health policies and programs that will help eliminate health disparities." Their website provides information for health professionals and consumers alike on minority health topics and health disparities. Look for health data and statistics, current research and publications, and news.

OUWB Publishes on COVID-19

by Nancy Bulgarelli, Medical Library Director
In addition to other ways the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives, it has also altered the scientific publishing cycle, with articles on the topic rushing to press. As of June 25, 2020, a search of the PubMed database retrieved 26,216 articles on the topic! A specialized database from the National Library of Medicine called LitCovid presents results graphically and has a helpful interface that allows searching by country, article type, and other key concepts. Check it out!

Here are recent articles on the pandemic by your OUWB colleagues:
