Hi Neighbor!

"I was thinking white," I said to my friend, Beth, regarding my color choice for new kitchen cabinetry. “Hmm, white is nice…but, I guess, I just expected more from you.”  More from me? She meant it as a compliment, explaining that she expected me to do something more “outside-of-the-box," like a color.  That statement, from a gal who I consider to be my design spirit animal, sent me running back to the drawing board to reexamine that pile of kitchen magazines from a whole new perspective.

One magazine cover featured a gorgeous, green, distressed kitchen that stopped me in my tracks. Green? Could I handle green cabinets—for life? And it was distressed—as in fake wormholes and cracks! Would I really want new cabinets that would look old and beaten up from the get-go? I had waited 20 years to redo this kitchen and it was likely that it would never be redone again. My choices would be permanent.

I had three months to decide, so I came up with a strategy: I would take out this magazine photo of the green kitchen and scrutinized it every single day for the next three months asking myself, “Do I still love it?” By the end of that period, I figured if the love hadn’t waned, then I guess I could commit. Doubts crept back in when my cabinetmaker called me in multiple times to approve the color. Had he never done a green kitchen before? Was I crazy to do this whole kitchen in one color?!" I’d whip out the photo again. Nope! Not crazy. Still love it. The doubts faded away.

I’m forever grateful to my BFF for the creative push. In the end, it came out just like the inspiration photo! That was ten years ago and I still love this kitchen as much now as I did when it was first installed. So if you’re ever in doubt over a design color choice, try this strategy. Not that there’s anything wrong with white!

Sunday, September 25th
Downingtown Country Club, Downingtown

For the 9th consecutive year, C.A.S.E invites you to continue the tradition of “Moving forward, by giving back” to T/E Schools. Have fun and contribute to the success of current students in the District. Without the help of FLITE-funded programs, hundreds of students in our school district would be without the basic academic tools and support they need. Each student has access to a top-notch education, but it’s hard to take full advantage of it if your family cannot afford things like home internet, a computer or after school homework support. Join the effort to help ensure that no child falls through the cracks and fails to live up to his or her potential due to a financial struggle at home or lack of resources at school.
