Fit Feet Volunteer Opportunity

Special Olympics is the largest global public health organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program offers health screenings in nine areas: Fit Feet-podiatry, FUNfitness- physical therapy, Health Promotion- better health, nutrition and well-being, Healthy Hearing- audiology, MedFest -sports physical exam, Opening Eyes- vision, Special Smiles- dentistry, Strong Minds- mental and emotional health, and Healthy Young Athletes- pediatric screening. Special Olympics Maryland is currently recruiting trained medical professionals and medical professional students to volunteer as Healthy Athlete Volunteers at this year’s Summer Games event this summer!
Our Healthy Athletes Screening event will take place at Towson University on Saturday June 22nd and getting involved in our Fit Feet Screening could be a great opportunity for you to get hands on experience and knowledge working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Fit Feet offers screenings to evaluate ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics, and proper shoe and sock gear to participating athletes. Fit Feet helps Special Olympics athletes step lively on the playing field, and in everyday life. Many athletes suffer from foot and ankle pain, or deformities that impair their performance.

Public Health Leadership Opportunity
United Against Inequities in Disease (UAID) | Remote
United Against Inequities in Disease (UAID) is a 501(c)3 national non-profit organization that empowers students to eliminate health inequities locally.
We are pleased to announce 3 open leadership positions on the UAID National Board for the roles of Editor of the UAID Journal of Health Equity, UAID Communications Lead, and UAID Education & Empowerment Lead. Selected applicants will be working closely with 5 other leaders who comprise the National Board of the organization.
All positions are remote (video conference capability necessary) and require a commitment of 6-10 hours/week from July 15, 2024 - July 15, 2025. This is an unpaid leadership opportunity but is eligible for academic credit or practicum requirements.

Undergraduate Clinical Research Assistant

The Military Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (MiCOR) program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) is seeking highly motivated students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs for a research internship under the direction of Dr. Marian Tanofsky-Kraff. Dr.Tanofsky-Kraff is a Professor in the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology (Primary) and Medicine (Secondary). MiCOR is focused on understanding and intervening on biopsychosocial risk factors for cardiovascular disease among military members. The unpaid clinical research assistant position would be managed by MiCOR’s non-profit partner, The Metis Foundation.
The undergraduate clinical research assistant (UCRA) will support research staff by entering, organizing, and reviewing data. The current project requesting UCRA support is an NIH- and DHA-funded trial aimed at preventing disordered eating and excess weight gain in adolescent military dependents. The UCRA position is an unfunded internship at this time.
The UCRA is requested to commit to at least 10 hours per week for a minimum of 8 months. It is expected that the UCRA takes initiative, and is reliable, thorough, and detail oriented. This experience is ideal for individuals planning to pursue graduate work in psychology, medicine, nursing, or a related field. We are looking for a UCRA to start immediately or in the Fall. Medical Assistant/Scribe
The Center for Advanced Orthopaedics | Washington, DC
Quality-oriented Orthopaedic Medicine and Surgery practice seeking a dynamic Medical Scribe/Assistant for a full-time position. Strong preference to commitment of 1 year or more. Prior experience with medical scribing and/or medical assisting strongly preferred but not required. This role is geared towards those planning to apply to medical, PA, or PT school as an excellent gap-year position. Position includes opportunities to observe surgeries (during free time) and be mentored by Orthopaedic Surgeons and Physician Assistants.
Ideal applicants will have a typing speed of greater than 45 words per minute, strong listening and communication abilities, an interest in healthcare or health sciences, and be quick learners who can adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Daily Scribe duties include accurately documenting each patient visit in Electronic Medical Record (EMR), writing prescriptions for medications, writing physical therapy and other medical orders, assisting with patient messages, maintaining cleanliness of clinic rooms, and occasionally assisting with patient care, and more.
Daily Medical Assistant duties include rooming and triaging patients, managing patient flow, responding to patient messages, fitting for durable medical equipment and other items, drawing up and setting up for injections, and more.
Competitive hourly rate based on previous experience, paid time-off, and employee benefits available.
Clinic runs Monday through Friday 8am-4pm, typical hours are 7:45am-5pm. Clinic is located in Downtown DC with easy metro access to Farragut North/West metro stations.
