Attend on Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. via Zoom. You'll get a crash course in resume writing and come away with a customizable email template for your employer outreach.

Learn about renter’s rights |
Were you or a loved one impacted by the January ice storm? Join PSU Student Legal Services and Tenant’s Rights Attorney, Troy Pickard, for "Storm Damage: Renter’s Rights When the Unexpected Happens” on Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. This presentation will focus on landlord responsibilities in moments of unexpected damage and what impacted or displaced tenants can do. The event is completely free and will be held in-person in Smith Memorial Student Union at 11 a.m. in Smith Memorial Student Union 296 on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

| Deadline coming up for Portland State song competition
|
The deadline is March 1 to submit lyrics for a school song to the Alma Mater song competition. This song — or poem — will be short, metrical, rhyming, and simple enough to sing in under two minutes. The winning lyrics will be set to a melody composed by a PSU faculty member from the School of Music & Theater. The winning entry will be selected by a committee, with campus input. This competition is open to PSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff. A $500 prize will be awarded to the winning poet.

This week at Campus Rec: Women’s & Queer Climb Nights | Come climb and build community at Campus Rec with Women’s Climb Night on Wednesday, Feb. 21 and Queer Climb Night on Friday, Feb. 23
. Both events are from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Campus Rec in the ASRC. Climbers must complete the safety quiz at member services and grab a wristband before using the Climbing Center. This week brings the second event in the
2024 Presidential Speaker Series, this Thursday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m.* in the Smith Memorial Student Union ballroom. The featured speaker is Dr. Rowena Tomaneng, president of San José City College, who will provide examples, insights and food for thought on how PSU can become a model Minority Serving Institution for the Pacific Northwest. Everyone is invited to attend.

Research Opportunity: Apply to be a URISE Scholar |
The PSU URISE (Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement) program is recruiting for their fourth cohort of scholars. Students accepted into URISE will learn foundational skills of research and experience a 2-year paid placement in research learning communities focused on solving some of the world’s most pressing health issues! Students are also offered monthly stipends and a percentage of tuition is paid. Applications are open and will close on Feb. 26 at 8 a.m.

Join CIMR (Center for Internship, Mentoring, and Research) on Friday, Feb. 23 from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (KMC 295 or on Zoom) for an insightful seminar with Dr. Angela Spencer, a renowned global health researcher and implementation science expert. Hear about Dr. Spencer’s journey in research and her presentation on “Implementation Science to Improve Global and Local Community Health''. The seminar closes with a networking session providing students a chance to meet with Dr. Spencer and learn about research opportunities, internships, and graduate programs.

All students are encouraged to participate in the third round of strategic planning this
Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Smith Ballroom. If you can’t attend in person, there’s also a virtual option available from now through this Friday, Feb. 23.
Budget Forum
Students are also invited to have a voice in spending decisions for the university's next budget cycle (FY 2025) at the
2024 Winter Budget Forum this Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Student Union (Smith) ballroom. Please RSVP by noon today.

Not all love stories are romantic and not all love stories are even about human relationships. With that in mind, enjoy the PSU Love Stories on the Inside Portland State blog
about faculty, staff, students and alumni — and the love they found at Portland State. This feature was part of a Valentine’s Day campaign with University Communications and the Alumni Association, where PSU community members were invited to submit their love stories for publication.
