Welcome New Associate Program Directors
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sean Kenmore and Dr. Tyler Woodell as Associate Program Directors for the UCSD Internal Medicine residency training program.
Dr. Sean Kenmore received his M.D. from Creighton University and completed his Internal Medicine residency at UC San Diego, where he was a Chief Medical Resident. He is an academic hospitalist at the VA and a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at UC San Diego. Prior to this appointment, he served as a Core Faculty Member for the UC San Diego Internal Medicine residency. He will serve as a Co-Director for the Resident as Clinician Educator (RACE) Track, APD mentor for the Advancing Health Equity, Advocacy, and Diversity Curriculum, and is overseeing the development of the residency’s LGBTQ+ Health and Community Initiative. His interests include clinical education, curriculum development, advocacy, health equity, and sexual and gender minority health and wellness. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, coffee, and martial arts; he also runs an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons campaign. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honors medical society.
Dr. Tyler Woodell is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Nephrology-Hypertension at UCSD. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington before completing his residency in internal medicine at UCSD followed by fellowship training in nephrology at Oregon Health & Science University. In addition to being clinically active in the inpatient consult service and outpatient clinics, Dr. Woodell has served as medical director of the Hemodialysis Outreach Program at UCSD since 2018, during which time the program has doubled in size. He is the recipient of multiple teaching awards from internal medicine chief residents and nephrology fellows and is actively involved in medical student education. In addition to joining the internal medicine residency leadership team, Dr. Woodell was recently appointed associate program director of the nephrology fellowship program and has served as course director for the Advanced Nephrology for the Consultant annual conference since 2020. He is passionate about medical education and is excited to bring this passion to the residency program.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rebecca Sell for two decades of service to the residency program–as a resident, chief resident, pulmonary critical care fellow, and 12 years as Associate Program Director. She has been at the heart of our training program, teaching residents, students, and fellows in the clinical setting at all three of our hospitals and winning teaching awards every year, chairing our Clinical Competency Committee, launching, and leading our Advancing Women in Medicine efforts, and serving in numerous critical leadership roles for the institution including Medical Director of Resuscitation and Chair of the Code Blue Committee. Dr. Sell has accepted a faculty position as a Clinical Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She will be joining her family in Seattle.
Sincerely,
