Deuteronomy 1:1-3
These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the Jordan—that is, in the Arabah—opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab.  (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.)  In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the Lord had commanded him concerning them.
New International Version (NIV)
What are we waiting for?  Some things take forever!  Have you noticed?  What part of your life takes longer than you think it should?  You may remember the ketchup commercials before there were squeeze bottles.  We can live with waiting as long as we know that something is being accomplished.

Israel took forty years to make an eleven day journey.  Isn’t this shocking?   As a consequence of their own disobedience Israel found themselves taking laps in the wilderness waiting for God’s “green light” to go into the promised land.

Let’s go back to the beginning.  What has God asked us to do?  Have we done what we know he wants us to do?  If not, why not?  We may think we are waiting on God.  Perhaps God is actually waiting on us.  Step one:  Ask God what he would like for you to do today.  Step two:  Do that!  Ready.  Go.

Pray with me:
Thank you for this life, Father.  Thank you for all that you have done to make today possible.  What would you like for me to do with the gift of life you have given me today?  Speak Lord.  Your servant is listening.  Give me the courage and strength to obey.   In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
