Hi Neighbor!
I wish I had a recorded message to play for this intro. I have the privilege of working from home, which means right now I’m sitting on my deck in the sunshine and listening to a cacophony of birds. I can hear no fewer than five distinct bird calls at the moment. Don’t ask me what they are, I can’t identify even one of them. About ten years ago, I thought it smart to buy a guidebook to birds that actually played their call. Remember the kids’ books with the barnyard sounds and the photo and you pressed the photo? Same idea and while it’s a great idea in theory, by the time I’m trying to remember what I’ve heard and listen to the calls in the book, I’m lost. I may as well be listening to whale calls!

About ten feet above my head is a nest of baby robins. These parents have been working hard all morning flying off and returning to the nest with food. In the corner eave of my deck, there’s a nest of baby finches. This I know because I got a photo of the bird and sent it to a knowledgeable friend.  I did the same thing with seashells (well, minus the “audible” part). I bought a guide to shells and tried to match what I found at the Jersey shore with my dog-eared guide.  I’ve come to the conclusion that I should simply appreciate the beauty of the birds’ songs and the survival skills of the shells in the tumbling ocean waters.  Accept them for what they are and take in the moment.  I’ll say thank you for that—and save myself time thumbing through my books!  Maybe there’s an app that identifies bird songs..now there’s a useful app!
Happy summer, and enjoy the moments!
Jane

Radnor Girls Crew Club Rowing Camp - Give Crew a Try This Summer!
The RGCC Rowing Camp is a “learn to row” program that introduces the sport of rowing to girls ages 12-16.
We welcome girls from any school—camp is not limited to Radnor Township. The goal is to provide an opportunity for students to learn to row in a non-competitive environment. The sessions teach the mechanics of how to row with one oar (sweep rowing) which can be applied to two-oared rowing (sculling).
The program is designed to give each rower time to develop and improve rowing skills in a relaxed atmosphere. The campers will progress quickly from learning technique on the rowing machines to application on the water.  No prior rowing experience is needed.
The team’s coaches are assisted by current athletes from Radnor High School so the participants have the opportunity to talk with experienced girls about the sport as well as get more personal instruction.
Dates: June 20th-July 1st
