Lunch Lizard expanding to more sites than ever this summer!
Starting May 30, the Lunch Lizard food trucks will again tour the streets of the Grand Valley bringing meals free of charge to all children. Learn more and find a route schedule here.

O.W.L. camp completes 5th trip
Bookcliff Middle School students completed the fifth annual Outdoor Wilderness Lab on Grand Mesa May 1-5. O.W.L. offers students a chance to learn about science and nature in a hands-on way while staying at a camp. ICYMI, check out this O.W.L. video here.
New superintendent hired
It's official - Dr. Ken Haptonstall has been hired by the District 51 School Board to lead School District 51! Watch the D51 School Board approve moving forward with his contract here.
D51 honors staff, A+ students
Find the names of our 61 retirees (as reported to HR by April 7) honored at Salute to Staff here and the names of our 141 Superintendent Scholars (the second-most ever!) here. Superintendent Scholars earn a GPA of 4.0 or above in high school.
CareerWise Signing Day
Please join D51, CareerWise, and Gov. John Hickenlooper this Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Avalon Theater for the CareerWise youth apprenticeship Signing Day. D51 will be one of the first districts in Colorado to introduce CareerWise apprenticeships this fall. Learn more here.
Students plant veggies that will end up in District 51 cafeterias
Chatfield fifth-graders and Pomona third-graders planted seeds and seedlings last week at the CSU Western CO Research Center. Find out how the fruits - and veggies - of their labor will end up on D51 lunch trays here.
R-5 plant sale raises $4,600
Project-based learning students at R-5 built a greenhouse and grew the plants inside it from seed. This past week, they sold the flowers and seedlings to earn money to reinvest in the greenhouse and an adjoining garden. Learn more here.
Palisade art project offers hope Palisade High School juniors Tully Purser and Olivia Bode created an art project using 1,000+ pieces of paper submitted by elementary school students who were asked to draw or write what makes them happy. Learn more about the project's meaning here.
Teachers get technology grants Fruita Monument math teacher Daniel Carlson and Redlands science teacher Bradley Loucks each received $5K Century Link technology grants this month! Mr. Carlson will use his for Chrome-books and Mr. Loucks will use his for student fitness technology.

New sports fields at Clifton Clifton Elementary families were able to try out a new, grant-sponsored soccer and football field behind the school May 10. Kids can enjoy a free game of pickup at the field during the summer, too!
