Drama Presents “How to Succeed in Business
Without Really Trying” March 12-14
CAC’s drama department will present the musical comedy “How to Succeed in Business Without Really TryingMarch 12-14. This satire follows ambitious J. Pierpont Finch as he rises from the ranks of a window washer to a corporate bigwig.
Drama Director Jenna Thomas said she was drawn to the production because of the opportunity to delve into the history and culture of the 1960s. “For the last few years, we’ve been living in magical lands in "Beauty and the Beast" and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” so I was very interested in picking a time period the students hadn’t had the chance to explore.”
Of the 22 cast members, the lead roles are played by seniors Shane Almond (as the crafty young businessman J. Pierpont Finch) and Caroline Leverett (as Finch’s love interest Rosemary Pilkington). In addition to a talented ensemble, Thomas said the audience can expect cameos by a few unnamed faculty members, and CAC’s Band Director James Wilhite will conduct the orchestra which will tackle difficult musical pieces from the era.
While one of the challenges of the show will be recreating the hair, makeup, colors and energy of the 1960’s business world, Thomas said she’s confident her cast and crew have the vigor to bring the set to life. “I feel like our student body has the talent that’s needed for it, and the music is so much fun — there’s a lot of fast-paced, high-energy dancing.”
“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” opens Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. The musical concludes Monday, March 14 with a final showing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
Sarah Harris
Q&A with CAC alumna and intern for the Broadway production of "The Crucible"
Tell us a little bit about your background in theater.
Thinking about my background in theater takes me back to the days when I watched "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on VHS. Those were the days. Growing up, my family went to see quite a few shows including "Wicked," "Phantom of the Opera," "Mary Poppins," "Cirque Du Soleil" and "The Lion King." These shows and many others peaked my interest in theater.
Tell us about your current internship.
I am the stage management intern for the Broadway production of "The Crucible" directed by Ivo van Hove. I get to work with some of the most recognized names in the theater industry. The whole company is composed of brilliant and talented individuals. Every morning, I wake up excited to go to work because I am so grateful to be here!
What has your experience living in New York City been like so far?
I wasn't too worried about living in the city because I had been to visit a few times, but I knew it would be different — and it is. Living with eight million people takes some getting used to. You take the subway to work in a mass of humanity and begin your day. I enjoy living here, though. The five boroughs play a big part in making New York City the biggest neighborhood you've ever lived in. It kind of works like that. You have neighbors you avoid, neighbors you borrow from, neighbors you care deeply about, and neighbors you never see. I find that if you show a little kindness or even a hint of a smile, most people will return the favor.

Mrs. Wolhuter’s kindergarten class showed off their groovy garb last Tuesday. PV Elementary hosted a 1960s-themed dress up day in celebration of the school’s "Feelin’ Groovy Book Fair."
“What an amazing school and faculty! When schools make it a point to get students involved in helping organizations, great things happen… Thanks again for stepping up to the challenge Jesus gives us to help those who are truly in need.”

North Little Rock Elementary’s third grade boys' basketball team played an exciting comeback game on Saturday. The team was down and time was running out as the Pleasant Valley Elementary third grade boys’ team lined up along the court, got the crowd on their feet and began to chant “CAC” in support of their sister school. The NLR team went on to tie up the game and win in overtime.
NLR mom and teacher Tressa Ashberry said, “They pumped our boys up and kept their momentum going. At the end of the day, it isn’t about basketball or winning or losing, but being family!”
It’s moments like these that make us especially proud of our school family.
