To the Silver Community,
The surge of violence and hate directed at Asian individuals, families, communities that began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic has continued unabated across our nation. A climate of fear experienced by Asian members of the Silver community has only been exacerbated by the recent horrific murders here in New York City of Christina Yuna Lee and Michelle Alyssa Go and recent attacks on Asian members of the NYU community.
As a school of social work we condemn these acts of violence and all expressions of anti-Asian racism, xenophobia, and forms of hate and discrimination. We empathize with our Asian community members and recognize the chilling effect and deep impact these and other horrendous attacks close to home and across the country have had. We stand in solidarity and encourage the entire Silver community to speak out against anti-Asian hate and center healing and support for our Asian colleagues.
There is ongoing support for BIPOC faculty, staff, and students in the coming weeks that will center the experience of Asian members of the community and provide space to process recent events and be in community:
