"Pleasure Beach no longer out of reach" - Connecticut Post
Mayor Bill Finch participated in a Pleasure Beach cleanup on Saturday, May 16.
On Saturday, Mayor Bill Finch joined over 100 volunteers representing The Nature Conservancy, Park City Magnet School, Wheelabrator Bridgeport, Bridgeport Police Explorers, Aquaculture Regional Science & Technology Education Center, the Bridgeport Regional Business Council and other business and community groups for a cleanup on Pleasure Beach, a barrier beach on Long Island Sound that has not been open to the public in nearly two decades.
The Connecticut Post was on hand as volunteers, including Mayor Finch, removed trash from the shoreline, planted shrubs, and assembled picnic tables as part of ongoing work to prepare Pleasure Beach for future public access.
After years of effort, Mayor Bill Finch's administration is reopening the peninsula to the public...
"It's like a vacation in Bridgeport," Finch said.
Also, the Connecticut Post gives Mayor Finch a Thumbs Up for following through with a pledge to restore access to Pleasure Beach via water taxi. Click here to continue reading.

"Mayor Finch: Young business owners beneficial to downtown Bridgeport redevelopment" - News 12

Mayor Bill Finch meets with young business owners of the downtown neighborhood during a roundtable discussion held on Wednesday afternoon at B:Hive Bridgeport.
As Bridgeport’s downtown continues to grow, serving as a hub for young business leaders and entrepreneurs, Mayor Bill Finch met with several young downtown business owners to discuss how the city can help their businesses continue to grow and prosper in the Park City on Wednesday at B:Hive Bridgeport.
“Bridgeport’s downtown is being revitalized and bringing with it new businesses, jobs, and residents,” said Mayor Finch. “The small business owners play an important role in downtown’s growth. That’s why it is critical that we continue to have a dialogue with the business leaders, small business owners and entrepreneurs to ensure that we are providing them with the resources available to succeed and grow in Bridgeport.”

Bridgeport is Growing

2013 U.S. Census Bureau data indicates that Bridgeport's population has increased again. The Park City has added 488 residents from 2012 to 2013. Since 2010, Bridgeport's population has increased 1.7 percent, holding steady as the largest city in Connecticut.
"This is great news. And, it's proof that Bridgeport is becoming a better place to live, work, and raise a family," said Mayor Bill Finch.
Also, Connecticut Post assistant editor Hugh Bailey writes "City living is the way to go."
The average Bridgeport resident, says Mayor Bill Finch, is responsible for a half to a third the amount of greenhouse gas emissions as a suburbanite. This is for a variety of reasons -- smaller homes, fewer cars, more mass transit, shorter commutes to work on average. Density significantly cuts energy use for heating and cooling via shared walls and floors, and less land means less runoff, itself a serious driver of energy usage because it overwhelms sewer systems.
Interest in city living is growing, for the first time in generations. The suburban lifestyle has many fans, but it's increasingly seen as an inhibition, especially for the young and the old.
