That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown! I know, it’s a little early to start getting into Christmas spirit. But is it too early to celebrate and magnify our Lord and Savior who came into the world to bring us joy and peace and salvation and redemption and eternal life?
I can only imagine the angel’s uncontained excitement as he gave his message to the shepherds. The birth of Jesus was, and still is, insurmountably good news. God was bringing his ultimate plan of his people’s redemption to its full fruition and fulfillment, and he was physically present in our world to comfort us, show us his love in person, and close the massive gap that sin had torn between himself and us. What good news indeed! No wonder the rest of the army of angels suddenly burst onto the scene and started worshipping with all their might. The gospel is just too good to hold back. Christ had been born, and the greatest story ever told had just reached its greatest part—how could they not glorify the Almighty?
We’re excitedly approaching Thanksgiving, and yet Christmas decorations are already out for some reason. No one knows what holiday it is anymore. But both holidays are opportunities to think on all the ways God blesses us and be grateful. The angels couldn’t contain their worship because of how good the good news was. Are we worshipping with the same excitement? Are we overwhelmingly grateful for our Messiah who has come and accomplished our salvation? Glory to God in the highest heaven!
