Recently we shared some powerful stories of creativity and success in our 18-19 Report to the Community- Upstream Arts' evaluation findings from our work with Minneapolis Public Schools. We hear stories about our impact from our partners every day; here's one more:
Peter is an elementary student who found his spark in drumming and music while working with Upstream Arts. As he explored the beats and rests and infinite combinations that drumming can avail, he was able to practice waiting his turn, practice taking his turn, and really practice listening to his peers.
All this practice helped Peter stay engaged when one of his peers was having a bad day and when he was upset himself. He was able to use the practice of listening and waiting to quickly calm himself and return to the activity. Peter was able to regulate himself through the arts and to show others who he was through making these choices.
