Each year BBBS names a male and female match as Big and Little Brother & Sister of the year. This title is given to a match that goes above and beyond in their mentor relationship with a child. This year’s Big Brother of the Year is Steve Wadley; his Little Brother is Currion Dunson. Steve and Currion have been matched for over three years. They spend their time together hiking, boating, or visiting new locations. Steve was able to take Currion on his first trip to the beach in 2015. “Big Brothers Big Sisters has provided an opportunity for me to plan a quantity of time with a wonderful young man, Currion Dunson. Over the last several years I have had the immeasurable privilege of being part of a boy as he begins to stare manhood in the face,” says Big Brother Steve.
The Big Sister of the Year is Christie Borton, her Little Sister is Tamiah Murray. They have been matched over five years. According to Big Sister Christie, “Over the years we’ve done all sorts of things together, from quiet afternoons playing games at my house (she beats me at uno every time!) all the way to celebratory trips to the Aquarium and Six Flags in Atlanta when she made the honor roll. I think that first trip to the Aquarium was her first time out of the state of Alabama, and I am so glad I was able to make that happen. While Tamiah and I are both naturally pretty private people, we’ve developed a very comfortable and trusting relationship over the years and I always look forward to seeing her.”
Congratulations to this year's Big and Littles of the Year!
