Congratulations! You made it through Monday. Today is a new day. Keith Green sang, "Nothing lasts . . . except the grace of God by which I stand in Jesus." In Isaiah 40 and in Psalm 103 we have seen the temporary nature of life. Grass withers. Flowers fade. Sometimes even people may be forgotten. We may wonder, "Does anything in this world really last?"
David answers with a resounding, exhilarating, "Yes!" From everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him. The good news is that God's love is eternal in our ephemeral world. Indeed, God's love extends and grows generationally in our family as our children and their children live in covenant relationship to God.
God not only loves us but he leads us! God has established his throne as our eternal King. If we ever wonder, "Who is in charge in this world?" God answers, "I am." When we see the mess our world is in, we may wonder, "How is God in charge? Shouldn't things be better?" The hymn says, "Though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler, yet."
Pray with me:
Our Eternal King, forgive us for forgetting your sovereignty. You have always been. You will always be. Help us today to practice your presence in the present. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
