Exodus 12:13
The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
New International Version (NIV)
“When did I forget that you’ve always been the King of the world?”  I heard those words sung to God on the radio today.  They were right on time.  In our forgetfulness, we may live with a functional atheism, forgetting God’s sovereignty.  We may act like our whole lives depend on us.

Pharaoh forgot, if he ever knew, that there was a King greater than he.  He mocked God saying, “Who is the Lord?”  On one dark night, God broke his stubborn will with the worst plague of all.  But the blood from the Passover painted on the doors preserved the lives of God’s people.

This Passover is a picture of God’s salvation in our world as well.  Those who trust in Christ’s perfect sacrifice are spared spiritual death.  God saves all who are in Christ.  We come into relationship with him by trusting in his death for us.  On this Passover, the sacrifice was no ordinary lamb, but the Lamb of God, God’s firstborn, only begotten Son.  Because he died, we live.

Pray with me:
Father, help us to remember that you are the King we have always longed for, a gracious and benevolent ruler.  Rule without rival in your church and among your people today.  Your Kingdom come.  Our kingdom go.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
