Community Freedom Summit, Sept. 28 |
|
|
Human trafficking is not just a distant issue—it’s a reality in our own community. On Sept. 28, 2024, Not For Sale: One Step At A Time, in partnership with Walsh University, will host the 6th Annual Community Freedom Summit, urging everyone to confront this hidden crime and take meaningful action. This year’s summit, themed “Technology in Human Trafficking,” will explore how traffickers are exploiting technology to target vulnerable individuals, including children. Keynote speakers Michael Wheeler, President and Chief Legal Officer at Patriot Software, and David Frattare, Director of State Investigations for the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, will share their expertise on artificial intelligence, internet crimes, sextortion, and the dangers of modern apps.
In collaboration with the Ohio Attorney General’s office and the Red Sand Project, attendees will take part in a symbolic act of pouring red sand into the cracks of the sidewalks at Walsh University. This demonstration stands for those who fall through society’s cracks and into the hands of traffickers, reminding us that awareness and vigilance are crucial in the fight against human trafficking. Arrive early, between 9 – 10 a.m., to enjoy a light breakfast, explore the community marketplace, engage with freedom educators, and take part in the Red Sand Project. | Read More (PDF)

The Office for Culture and Belonging kicked off the academic year with an exciting community-building event, emphasizing the richness of everyone’s background and culture. This year’s theme, “A World of Flavors,” will take students on a culinary journey around the globe, featuring a new dish or drink each month. It’s a fun and delicious way to explore and appreciate the variety of cultures on campus.
In collaboration with the World Student Organization, the office hosted the first event, “Sip and Celebrate,” where international and domestic students came together to enjoy beverages from Mexico and Thailand. This gathering fosters connections across diverse backgrounds, providing a welcoming environment for students to network and celebrate cultural diversity.
We’re excited to see more Electric Vehicles (EVs) on campus—it’s a great step toward a greener future! However, we need to pause on charging EVs here for now. Please avoid plugging into light poles, as this puts extra strain on our power grid. But don’t worry—we’re exploring options to install proper charging stations on campus. In the meantime, check out nearby charging stations using this link: Local Charging Locations. Thanks for your cooperation as we work towards a sustainable solution!
