Join us for a panel discussion with professionals in technology transfer, including those working in university offices that guide research from the lab to the marketplace. Business of Running a Research Group (BSD)

October 23rd and 24th, 11 AM – 2:00 PM CST
This mini-course will address some of your most pressing concerns as you consider the practical aspects of starting your own lab. Each of the four 60-minute sessions will be a moderated panel discussion, structured around questions that each panelist will answer. This mini-course is highly appropriate for late-stage grad students and postdocs who are nearing the academic job market.

The Career Forum provides the opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists to engage with alumni from a broad range of careers to share their perspectives and advice through panel discussions, themed round table discussions, and informational interviews.

Alumni share their perspectives on navigating a job search, networking, the interview process in their field, how they leveraged their first job to turn into their second, and what are the next steps of their professional evolution.
Ask-an-Alum Round Table Discussion
2:15 p.m. − 3:15 p.m.
Alumni mentors will host conversations related to breaking into their career field.
One-on-One Informational Interviews
3:30 p.m. − 5 p.m.
Meet with up to three alumni mentors for one-on-one conversations (advanced registration required).
After completing your registration, you will be sent a link to sign up for one-on-ones.
Sign up will be open October 20st through November 3rd, 11:59 p.m, or until interview spots are all full.

Join GRAD for a virtual conversation with Edmund Hayes on applying to European Research Council grants. Edmund Hayes gained his doctorate with honors from the department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. He works on early Islamic history, in particular Shiʿi history, focusing on the intersection of intellectual developments and social and political dynamics. He is a founder-member of the Shiʿi Studies Group at the University of Chicago and is now assistant professor at Leiden University.
