Beth Morrison breaking ground on new facility
Bringing Our Bold Vision to Life
On June 18, we broke ground on our new 36,000 square foot facility based on the nationally recognized Family Justice Center model. The new facility will offer counseling, treatment, advocacy and educational programs under one roof for nearly 30,000 individuals each year. It will also be visible to the public making it easier for people to seek help and serving as a reminder of the prevalence of violence in the community.

After a strong show of support during the silent phase of our Plant the Seeds of Hope campaign we have successfully raised more than $4 million dollars. We are now turning to the community to help fund the remaining $1 million to reach the $5 million fundraising goal.

Many attended the groundbreaking ceremony including the City of Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown, Board of Commissioners Vice-chair Jeff Matis and Undersheriff Mike McCabe.

With the generous help from the staff at the Michigan Department of Transportation Oakland Service Center our event attendees, volunteers, HAVEN staff and local media were able to escape the rain to continue the celebration. See event pictures here.

HAVEN’s Inaugural Gala Deemed a Fabulous Success!
We sincerely thank all of our sponsors, guests, and volunteers for the amazing support of our inaugural HAVEN Gala, “Raise the Roof," event held on June 6.

The
generosity of the nearly 400 event attendees was astounding - the event raised nearly $290,000. We are humbled by the support we received on behalf of surviviors and families in the midst of the crisis of domestic and sexual violence.

The signature event, hosted by Glenda Lewis, honored our long history of serving victims of domestic and sexual violence, while kicking off our  next chapter by celebrating the construction of our new facility and new way of serving victims.

A Wonderful Opportunity

Last fall Beth Morrison, HAVEN’s CEO, was awarded the Eugene A. Miller Fellowship by the McGregor Fund. The Fellowship supports Beth as she investigates and researches potential social enterprise opportunities for HAVEN. Her key focus will be to measure opportunities based on best fit for our mission and the needs of survivors; seeking out a business model or venture that enhances the services we provide and that will also allow for survivor growth and autonomy.
As a part of the Fellowship, Beth has the wonderful opportunity to experience time away from the agency on sabbatical, both this summer as well as during the winter of 2015. From July 14 through September 15, Beth will attend a summer program at Stanford University, which focuses on social innovation as well as non-profit leadership. In addition to her academic experience, she will also have the fantastic opportunity of hiking in northern Arizona and southern Utah, an area of the country that she loves.
In Beth’s absence the HAVEN Board of Directors named Marianne Dwyer, Director of Business Operations, and Emily Matuszczak, Senior Director of Programs, as interim co-CEO’s.
Both HAVEN and Beth are honored to have been selected to receive this remarkable opportunity. Not only is it a great opportunity for Beth’s professional and personal growth but a wonderful opportunity for other HAVEN staff to learn and grow as well.
We wish Beth well as she goes off on this grand adventure and look forward to hearing her stories upon her return in September.
