PSU offers supportive options during times of violence and discrimination

PSU values inclusion, academic freedom, robust academic discourse, and free speech. These values can seem to be in tension with one another, particularly during times of increased violence, discrimination, and war. Many among us may feel upset or excluded by protests, events, and discussions inside and outside the classroom. PSU has options for students who wish to share their experiences, seek assistance, or request a review of any incident or concern. We encourage consultation, help-seeking, referrals, and reporting. PSU will not tolerate violence or violations of the Portland State Prohibited Discrimination and Harassment Policy. Please review the Portland State Free Speech Guide, engage in healthy discourse, and consider the referral options and resources listed below.

Become an advocate for suicide prevention

Become part of PSU’s campus-wide team of advocates for suicide prevention. Portland State students, in partnership with the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) and the School of Social Work, developed an asynchronous suicide prevention training called “Care. Ask. Connect.” By participating in this free 1-hour course, you can become a vital part of PSU’s movement to increase awareness around suicide prevention and mental health (and enter into a raffle to win a $30 gift card).

Share your insights on alcohol and drug use at PSU

Help SHAC improve our student-led Harm Reduction program by filling out this 10-minute anonymous survey about alcohol and drug use. Your responses will help us to create programming and services that are more relevant to students at PSU. At the end, you will be redirected to a Qualtrics survey where you can put in your email (without it being tied to your survey answers) for a chance to win raffle prizes.

Sleuthing in song in the PSU Opera’s “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant”

The game's afoot! A giant is dead, and his body lies at the base of a great beanstalk. The police believe young Jack is responsible. But the boy insists that he's innocent, and begs the help of the great detective Sherlock Holmes and his colleague, Dr. Watson. Can they untangle this magical mystery? In this operatic mystery for all ages, Holmes turns to a magic harp for clues that come in the form of musical quotes from opera greats, all cleverly woven into the plot. PSU's production of 'Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant' is the second-ever presentation of this new opera. Performances are Nov. 25-26 and Dec. 2-3 in the Lincoln Hall Studio Theater.
