"CT to receive $31.14 million in storm aid" - Associated Press

Mayor Bill Finch speaks at a press conference with U.S. Representative Jim Himes, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, State Senator Andres Ayala and members of the City Council announcing funds for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts held on Monday afternoon in Seaside Park.
This week, Governor Dan Malloy announced nearly $32 million in grants for cities and towns affected by Superstorm Sandy. Bridgeport was awarded more than $7 million in funds.
In response, Mayor Finch made the following statement: “This is great news. Too many vulnerable Bridgeport residents live in areas that are highly susceptible to flooding. Our hope is to change that. But we can’t afford to do it alone. That’s why today’s announcement means so much for our city. We’re not alone. We’ll be able to make a bullish investment in helping Bridgeport become a better and safer place to live – for kids and families who need it most.”

“Bridgeport Launches Smarter 9-1-1” – WTNH
Mayor Bill Finch, Police Chief Joseph Gaudett, Fire Chief Brian Rooney and 911 Call Center Director Doree Price announce Smart911 at a press conference held at the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday.

The Smart911 system can let first responders know all about you, your family, and your home, before there is an emergency.
In regards to this announcement, Mayor Finch said: “Smart911 will allow both 9-1-1 call takers and emergency responders to have more detailed information about a citizen in need, leading to faster response times and ultimately more lives saved.
