Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
    the righteous run to it and are safe.
New International Version (NIV)
                 Where do you go to be safe?  When a powerful storm hit our community of Cedar Park back in 1997, I drove home with a tornado in my rearview mirror.  When I arrived home, both of our sons were running around in our front yard.  I scooped them up, called Melanie downstairs and entered our safest room.  The storm turned before it came to our house, and we were spared.

                 My neighbors Joe and Caryl Simpson gathered their four kids and two dogs into the laundry room in the very center of their home.  When the storm passed over, they opened the doors of the laundry room to find the house around it was gone.

                King Solomon lived in a palace in the fortified city of Jerusalem.  Like his father David before him, he saw the Lord as his true security.  Specifically, the Lord's name was for him a fortified tower.  When God's people are threatened by fear, we run to our God and he keeps us safe.  How often in times of suffering and trial have we found peace by simply speaking the name of Jesus?  Run to him today.

Pray with me:
Father, you are our mighty fortress, our tower of strength.  Forgive us for trusting in anything else, anything less for our security.  We run to your powerful name and we trust in you for our provision and protection today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
