Hebrews 3:12-13
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.  But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
New International Version (NIV)
There is a medical term for hardening of the heart.  Scientists have named it Sclerocardia.  The very tissues of the heart itself can be scarred because of autoimmune or vascular disease.  A hard heart will not beat in a normal rhythm.

In the scriptures, too we read about hardness of heart.  In time, unrepentant sin scars our hearts in ways that make them hard and insensitive to the moving of God’s Spirit.  God continues to speak, but our sinful unbelieving hearts keeps us from hearing.

What is the answer?  Mutual encouragement in Christ.  We are to encourage one another daily so that hardness of heart does not set in.  Someone needs you to encourage them today.  Find them and encourage them.  Our spiritual lives depend on daily encouragement.
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for the Encourager who comes alongside us.   Soften our hearts again so that we would sense the moving of your Spirit.  If any in our families or church families is being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin, we pray that you would use our encouragement to bring them back home to you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
