Is your favorite part of the church service the benediction?

Romans 15:5-6, 13
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
New International Version (NIV)
Is your favorite part of the service the benediction?  Me, too!  Perhaps we have different reasons.  For some the benediction is like the long awaited green light.  Free at last.  Where are we eating today?  What time is the game?  Surely not.
For me, the benediction reminds us that the God who has blessed us has given us the authority to bless others.  Paul practiced this freely.  He did not claim any  special power, but he served the omnipotent God of the universe.
So in the name of our great God who gives endurance and encouragement, may God give his people one mind and one voice to glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ today.  And may our God of hope fill all of us with all joy and peace as we trust in him, so that we may overflow with hope by  the power of the Holy Spirit.  In Jesus’ name we have been blessed.  Now, pass it on!
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for blessing us in Christ.  Enable us to share your blessings freely with all whom you bring our way today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
