The first of the semester’s three-day weekends is coming up on March 19. I was thinking about doing a bit of traveling. What do you reckon? Please don’t.
We want you to have a break and we want you to have some fun during the three-day weekend. However, traveling is not a good idea. We’ve seen lower case positivity rates at NYU recently; it’s important to sustain that progress, and it’s too easy to expose yourself to COVID-19 when you travel.
While we strongly urge you not to travel, if you do, remember that if you go outside of NY state or the five contiguous border states (CT, MA, NJ, PA, VT) for more than 24 hours, you will be required to quarantine upon return (no hiding it, no skipping it) and you must complete the self-report form.
So, stay here. It’s NEW YORK. Where are you going to go that’s better (and, as usual, please wear a mask, maintain physical distance, avoid large crowds (especially indoors), and all the rest)?
A reminder to faculty about the three-day weekend: the Provost’s Office urges faculty to treat the three-day weekends (March 19 and April 19) as breaks. Please avoid assigning weekend work or scheduling assessments so that students are not compelled to use the weekend for studying.
Looking ahead to the April three-day weekend, while Governor Cuomo recently announced that, effective April 1, domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine upon return to NY, please know that CDC and NYU continue to discourage non-essential travel even if you are vaccinated.
Finally, not all schools and programs are following this break schedule. Where school or program directions conflict with University-wide guidance, please follow the local directions.
