VI4 lands grant to build BSL3 facility
Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been awarded a nearly $8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to construct a state-of-the-art BioSafety Level 3 (BSL3) facility for research involving the COVID-19 virus, anthrax and other dangerous microorganisms.

Mariana Byndloss, assistant professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology, was honored for her co-authored piece “High-fat diet-induced colonocyte dysfunction escalates microbiota-derived trimethylamine N-oxide.”

Vanderbilt researchers discover how gut inflammation leads to bone lossGastrointestinal inflammation triggers the expansion of a population of “bone-eating” cells, leading to bone loss, Vanderbilt researchers have discovered.
The findings suggest new therapeutic targets for reducing bone loss in disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), said Jim Cassat, MD, PhD, associate professor of Pediatrics and senior author of the study in Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Try to send a test print, and if it does not work, please do the following:

- Remove the printer
- Open file explorer
- In the address bar type: \\print
- In the search field type in the printer name (MCN-05-MFD-102)
- Double click the printer name to install it
Mac
- Open System Preferences
- Open Printers & Scanners
- Click the + button on the bottom left
- Click the globe icon in the top-center of the window
- Copy and past the printer's IP address into the address field (10.114.81.204)
- Click Add

Masking guidance updated
VUMC has updated its masking guidance to follow what is recommended by the CDC. Masks will no longer be required in indoor, non-clinical areas for vaccinated individuals.

Zoom to Teams Project
VUMC leadership recently announced the decision to limit Zoom for general video-conferencing use and transition to Microsoft Teams by March 2023. While this decision is being driven by our shared need to reduce cost, we also seek to improve security, standardize support, and remove duplicate services. Zoom for telehealth use will remain.

There is an ultra low freezer for emergency use available to the department. If a laboratory has a freezer failing, contact Starr or Stephanie to sign out the freezer and gain access!
