To Thee St. Michael's...

This past week we joyfully celebrated St. Michael's 61st birthday and officially dedicated Hubbard Hall in honor of Mr. Hubbard's legacy of leadership and love for St. Michael's!  

Application Time is NOW for the 2019 Kindergarten Class 

Now is the time to apply for Kindergarten for 2019! Applications may be submitted online
Our St M families are our best ambassadors!  Please help us spread the word about our Admissions Open Houses!
  • A Kindergarten Open House for prospective parents is scheduled for October 25 at 9:30 am. Interested families may register HERE.
  • A Middle School Open House for prospective parents and their rising 6th grade students is scheduled for Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m. Interested families may register HERE.
New this year: Welcome Wednesdays! 
  • Kindergarten Admissions tours will be given EACH Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., beginning September 19. No registration needed! Meet in the lobby of Hubbard Hall. Tell your friends and neighbors! 

6th/7th Grade Challenge Discovery Field Trip -Tuesday

A friendly reminder that the 6th and 7th grades are going to Challenge Discovery on Tuesday, September 18.
Important Departure/Pick-Up Location InformationOur buses will leave at 7:45 a.m. from the old Martin's parking lot at Stony Point Shopping Center (3036 Stony Road and Huguenot Road). Please drop your child at this Martin's parking lot at 7:30 a.m. We will return in time for our regular dismissal. Return pick-up is also at this Martin's parking lot.

What to Bring: Each student should bring a bag lunch, snack, and a water bottle. 

What to Wear:
Students must wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Since we will be outdoors all day and the trip will occur rain or shine, dressing in layers and a hat are recommended. Water, bug spray and sunscreen will be available.

Students requiring Epi-pens should be sure to keep them close during the day.  Challenge Discovery will cancel the event only for dangerous winds, lightning, or torrential rain. 

Model UN Informational Meeting (for 8th Grade Parents/ Students)

Model UN is an educational simulation/academic activity in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills. Students will attend conferences at the College of William and Mary and Maggie Walker High School.
A PARENT informational meeting will be held in the Great Hall on Tuesday, September 25 from 3:15-3:45 p.m.  Any 8th grade students who are interested in participating in Model UN are also encouraged to attend!

Can You Bowl a Turkey?*

Middle Schoolers, join us for a Middle School Bowling Social this Friday, September 21 at King Pin Lanes (200 N. Otterdale Rd, in Midlothian) from 3:15-5 p.m. Students are to bring $6 cash. Bowling shoes are included until they run out. You may wear tennis shoes with white soles if you prefer not to wear bowling shoes.  (Optional: Students may also bring extra money for snacks.) Parents should arrive to pick up their children at 4:50 p.m, please.
*Three strikes in a row is called a TURKEY!

Exploring Faith Begins 9/17! (For Grades 6-8)


Monday Morning, September 17, 7:15-7:45 a.m., Middle School Allen Library 
Mrs. Evans and Mr. Hansen will be leading a brand new group this year for Middle Schoolers called Exploring Faith. In this before-school gathering, we will explore the hard questions of our faith and try to grapple with the answers together. 
Join us for some treats, fun games, and engaging discussion twice a month starting this Monday, September 17!  Please contact Mr. Hansen to confirm your child's interest.

Say Cheese! School Pictures!

We look forward to seeing your child’s smiling face at school pictures this week.  Please note that even if you’re not planning to order photos, all students will have a picture taken for the yearbook.   
  • Middle School Picture Day: Monday, September 17. 
  • Lower School Picture Day: Tuesday, September 18. 

New this year, school pictures will be ordered online after picture day.  The link with ordering instructions will be provided to parents via email in approximately two weeks. 

Eighth Grade Class Pictures

Eighth grade students should report to the Great Hall immediately upon arrival at school on Monday morning.  Please review the attached instructions for 8th grade parents/students regarding school pictures so you may plan accordingly.

Come Race for CHAnge!

Race for the CHAnge (CHA = Cooper Henry Abbott) 
  • 5K AND a Children's Fun Run
  • Saturday, October 13 at 9 a.m.
  • Plus a "Virtual Run" for those that cannot attend but wish to support the race
St. Michael's is organizing a team to run in the Race for CHAnge to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. This event is in memory of St M student Cooper Henry Abbott who lost his battle to the disease last November at age 9. Bring your kids and your family as we race to bring CHAnge to kids fighting cancer.
The race begins and ends at Midlothian Middle School (parking available on site) and the course will round Loch Lothian and continue through the historic Midlothian Mine ruins.
  • You can sign up to VOLUNTEER HERE or REGISTER HERE.
  • When you register, please join the St. Michael's Episcopal School team with the password: dragons.
  • We will set a place for St M runners to meet at the race as the date gets closer and be sure to wear St M spiritwear! Please contact Christian Hansen with questions.

MS Chapel Opportunity
It is a St M tradition for Middle School students to play leadership roles in weekly chapels. Mr. Hansen would like to have as many students involved as possible in the areas of: 
Music, Design, Reading / Liturgy, Drama, and  Giving Chapel Talks.  Please contact Mr. Hansen if interested in participating. 


Summer Service Hours

Middle Schoolers should record any summer service hours. The service hour form is available in the Middle School Google Classrooms for ATL&L under "Classwork / Important Documents".
