ISC Cloud First Update
January 2017
In this update, we focus on the new Cloud Resources website and upcoming Knowledge Exchange session.
Cloud Resources Website
We are excited to unveil our new Cloud Resources website! On it you will find over 250 links to a wide variety of cloud resources grouped by category:
  • Planning & Strategies – Planning guides and articles from Gartner, EDUCAUSE, Cloud Technology Partners
  • Technical Resources – Application development, integration, agile development practices, infrastructure, security
  • Self-Directed Learning – Cloud training and educational opportunities
  • Peer Institutions – Materials and resources from peer institutions, EDUCAUSE, Internet2
  • Reference – Glossaries, background materials, vendors, etc.
Check back often as links will be added and updated continually.
January Knowledge Exchange Session
Join the ISC Cloud First team for a knowledge exchange session later this month. There will be no formal presentation; rather, this is an informal forum to meet with peers on campus working on cloud technologies to exchange ideas, discuss existing challenges, and share experiences. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, issues, and lessons learned for exploration and collaboration.
Monday, January 30, 2017, 1-2pm
ISC Bits & Pieces Room

(306 Sansom Place West)
RSVP via Knowledge Link

Materials from previous events, including the presentation and a demo from last month’s Lunchtime Learning session, are available on the Cloud First website. If you would like to suggest topics for a future event, please contact us at cloud‑first@isc.upenn.edu.
Recent Progress
The Integration team is working to select a SaaS or hybrid (SaaS-supporting, SaaS-compatible) product for performing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) functionality. The team is conducting ETL demos with several vendors and a proof of concept is underway.
The Architecture, Infrastructure, & Migration team is working with Amazon to explore migrating workloads to AWS (Amazon Web Services).
The Application Design & Tools team continues work on the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ordering portal pilot (see the project page for more information).
We will keep you posted on latest developments as we move forward.
