It’s hard to always know just what to say to say to our students to build their confidence. Getting it right without overdoing it, is usually the goal.
Attached is a list of 55 positive things to say to your child. Even the best of us can use a refresher every now and then. Susan

Letter to Parents From Mary, our Music Teacher
Dear Parents,
I will retire at the end of this school year (as of July 1, 2019). It has been an honor and a pleasure to work here at ECS for the last seventeen years. I have loved working with the children, colleagues and parents that make up our community. I have been privileged to have the opportunity to create and build a developmental music program over many years and to watch several generations of children pass through my whole program. It has been a delight to watch your children grow into the lovely young people that they are. I appreciate the help and support for the music program that I have received from you, my colleagues, my Directors and the Boards of Trustees. Although I look forward to a very active retirement, I will miss the wonderful ECS community.
With my best wishes for you and your children,
Mary Guthrie

6th Grade Art Exhibition:
Art and The Cosmic Connection Friday, June 14th through Tuesday, June 18th
Starting on Friday, June 14th, the sixth graders will have an art show hanging in the hallway on the third floor entitled Art and The Cosmic Connection. Students studied a series of scientific images, from topographical and chemical images, to geological and geographical images. They learned about how scientists use the Elements of Art to read and interpret different planetary surfaces, which then inspired and informed their own original art pieces. The show will hang until Tuesday of next week.

Thank you PTSO
Diane Murray and Derrick Ladson especially would like to extend sincere thanks to the PTSO for their support of Elysian's theater program. We love to use the Mile Square Theater space and would never be able to afford it were it not for the generosity of the PTSO.

IT’S TIME TO RETURN THE GLOCKENSPIELS!!
2nd Request
Dear 4th , 5th and 6th Grade Parents,
I am so proud of the work that your children did this year and in the spring concert!! I hope you are too.
Now that we are almost at the end of the year, I am asking you to send back to school the glockenspiel that was loaned to your child at the beginning of the year. It is very important that I get all instruments back no later than June 17th. Please remember that all these instruments (almost 100 in total) must be cleaned and packed for the summer.
Please make sure that your child returns the instrument in its case, with all the regular keys on it (12 brightly colored keys), with all the note magnets (12), 4 mallets (two with black heads, two with pink heads) and the three chromatic keys (black metal keys): low F sharp (F#), low B flat (Bb), and high F sharp (F#). It is very important that all accessories come back with each instrument!!!
I will keep a record of your child’s name, date of return, and condition of the instrument. If your child’s instrument is seriously damaged, missing keys, or is not returned you will be billed accordingly.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Best wishes,
Mary Guthrie
Music Teacher

Notes From The Nurse
Dear Parents,
Warm weather has finally arrived! There are a few health reminders for the warm weather season:
● Please apply sunscreen to your child in the morning before school. They go outside for recess weather permitting.
● Send reusable water bottles in order for students to remain hydrated.
● Make sure your child wears appropriate weather attire and shoes that will not slip off.
Regards,
Diane DeSombre, RN

Friends of Elysian - Annual Appeal Update
| |
Please be on the lookout for tomorrow’s All-In Newsletter in which we discuss some of the ways we fundraise and also give lots of "Donor Thanks!" In case you missed last week’s newsletter where we talk about vital funding for the annual operational grant and hear some inspiring words about "paying it forward" from our Spotlight Donor, you can find it here: June 4 All-In Newsletter.
Or, to make a donation by check, a pledge form is available here. Simply return it by mail or in-person to the school office.

| A note about attendance: The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance.
By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill.
There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans.
We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
