Luke 21:3-4
“Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.   All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
New International Version (NIV)
Do you remember a gift someone gave you?  Why?  As Melanie and I celebrate 34 years of marriage, I still remember one of the gifts we received.  A simple painted blue plate adorns one of our cabinets.  Painted by a sweet lady who overcame her disability, we cherish this labor of love.

What kinds of gifts does God remember?  Jesus watched the people put their money in the plate.  Then he commended a  widow who gave two copper coins because out of her poverty she gave all that she had.  Who gives their last penny?  If she gave all she had to live on, then on what did she live?  She trusted God’s provision.

Years ago, Osceola McCarty, a “washer woman” left a $150,000 gift to a university.  She worked her whole life to save the money to give that gift.  Her generosity still inspires us.  What can we give someone today that they would never expect?  Try and see!

Pray with me:
Father, thank you that your divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness . . . Please help us to share your good gifts with others so that we will not only be blessed but be a blessing.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
