How hard can it be to hold a crucified person in a tomb?
How hard can it be to hold a crucified person in a tomb?

Matthew 28:5-6
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.   He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
New International Version (NIV)
This is exactly what the Pharisees feared.  They told Pilate Jesus had predicted his resurrection.  Pilate allowed them to post a guard and said, “Go make the tomb as secure as you know how.”  I’m sure they did.  How hard can it be to hold a crucified person in a tomb?  Harder than they thought!
Resurrection Sunday brought a seismic shift which shook the world.  The stone rolled away.  Guards fainted.  An angel spoke.  Women saw an empty tomb.  The world changed.
Years ago on a tour of the Garden Tomb outside Jerusalem I looked with my friends at an empty tomb.  We cannot be sure if this was the tomb where Jesus lay.  What we know for sure is that nobody ever found Jesus’ body.  Some still attempt to explain his inexplicable absence.  Those who know him live in Christ’s inescapable presence.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for an empty tomb today.  Even more we thank you for the fullness of life that we have found in Christ.  O God who fills the whole universe in every way, fill us today we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
