Have you ever told someone you love them and received no response? In one of M. Night Shyamalan’s movies, a young woman expresses her love for a young man. The shy young man does not share her feelings, and says nothing. In the next scene we hear the bitter wail of unrequited love.
In Laban’s scheme to get Jacob to marry Leah, he failed to account for the intensity of Jacob’s love for Rachel. Leah knew she was not loved. God knew that Leah was not loved. He granted Leah the desire of her heart by giving her four sons. Leah articulated her story through the names of her sons.
If nobody else in the world loves you, God does. When you feel forgotten by those who should know you and care about you, know this: God sees you, knows you, and loves you. From Leah’s fourth son, Judah came descendants, David, and best of all Jesus. Though rejected by his own, Jesus became the cornerstone. So we say with Leah, “This time we will praise the Lord!”
