Acts 3:11-16
22 For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
24 “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. 25 And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’ 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

New International Version (NIV)
There are at least three kinds of people:  those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who ask, “What just happened?”  Everybody wondered what happened when a man who couldn’t walk was cured.

After God healed the lame man, Peter did not miss the chance to invite his fellow Jews to follow Jesus.  There was no New Testament at this time, but Peter pointed to Moses, Samuel, and the prophets to remind them that God had promised a Messiah.  The people of Israel were heirs of the prophets and the covenant.  Now Peter reminds them that through Abraham’s offspring all people would be blessed.  Jesus came as the fulfillment of that promise.

How does anybody receive God’s blessing?  Jews and Gentiles alike must repent of sin and turn to the Lord.  There is no other way of salvation.  God is making things happen in our world through the story of Jesus.  We can watch, wonder, or worship.  What will we do today?
Pray with me:
Father, we see you at work in our world through the good news of Jesus.  Help us to turn from sin and turn to him.  Let our hearts burn within us as we see the ways Jesus fulfilled all of your promises.  We miss so many things.  Please do not let us miss Jesus and his work around us today.  Show us who Jesus is and what you want us to do.  Bring all people to your Son and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.   We ask in his name.  Amen.
We begin the new year of 2024 with great anticipation.  Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
