Through the Halls ...
Fostering a Love of Reading: This week, our Lower School K-2 students welcomed acclaimed author Abby Hanlon of the popular Dory Fantasmagory series. Ms. Hanlon enthralled our classes with stories of how she wrote the books and gave our young writers tips on story writing and idea generation.
Making Global Connections: As part of their study of the ocean, our second graders had a Skype video chat with a marine biologist from The Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida. From learning about how turtles at the hospital are rescued and cared for to how our students can do their part to protect sea turtles and ocean life by keeping trash and chemicals out of waterways, this virtual classroom experience was the highlight of the week!
Hands on Science: It was planting day in seventh grade science this week as our students planted their crops in the new greenhouse for ongoing science study this year.
Our eighth grade students are learning how elements in the periodic table have different chemical properties. Each one emits a different color flame when burnt, which they then used to identify an unknown solution by its color.
