Dear Roots Society Member,

My name is Ronald Paul, and I am proud to serve as chair of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Roots Society, of which you are a member. This distinguished group celebrates you, and other donors like you, who have supported Federation’s Annual Campaign for 20 years or more — an incredible accomplishment and act of generosity. I look forward to getting to know you, and I am deeply grateful for you.

As a Washington, DC native, I, and so many others, have been the beneficiaries of the incredible programs and resources our Jewish community offers — and it’s your many years of support that contributed to our thriving Jewish community. Thank you.

I am privileged to provide a special update from Federation’s CEO, Gil Preuss, specifically for you and your fellow Roots Society members. In this update, Gil outlines how you empower Federation to respond to the crisis in Ukraine and beyond. 

As of today, we have raised more than $1.4 million to support Ukraine’s Jewish community. Together, with our global partners, people like you are making a life-saving difference for Ukrainians — aiding those fleeing the horrors of war and others who remain in peril. Recent efforts include:

• 5,000+ Jewish refugees have been evacuated, including an additional 650+ Jewish Ukrainians who have recently arrived in Israel.
• 23,000+ callers have been helped through global support hotlines.
• 150 Jewish organizations across Ukraine receive immediate security assistance to protect against looting and vandalism.
• 7,000+ refugees have received on-the-ground support in Ukraine.

Thanks to your support, Federation and our partners remain deeply committed to meeting the critical needs of the more than 200,000 Jews in Ukraine.
