Black lives matter. Wind & Oar Boat School stands in solidarity with the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities protesting a system of oppression and dispossession making it possible for the centuries of violence against people of color to continue. We commit to join those working to dismantle the entrenched, institutionalized racism that pervades our society. We see the grief, anger, and exhaustion of the Black and people of color communities and commit to giving them respite by being accountable to them in our actions, language, and behavior.

Wind & Oar is a youth education organization dedicated to the principle that all children should have the opportunities to reach their potential and pursue their highest dreams. Our work is in pursuit of a reimagining of education models inclusive of the diversity of experience and backgrounds of all our students. Despite these efforts we recognize there is deep and continuous work to do. We acknowledge that racist ideology (that defines whites as supreme) is central to systems of oppression and that by not explicitly working to dismantle we are complicit in keeping it intact. We commit to examining and deconstructing racism in our organization; And, to listen to and make space for the voices of the black and people of color communities. We pledge to actively fight racism in all its explicit and implicit forms.
