NYU Clery Campus Notice

Robbery

On September 16, 2024, at 9:30 p.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. near the west entrance of Washington Square Park at West Washington Place in Manhattan.

The victims, two NYU students, were exiting the park when an unknown individual approached the two students. The unknown subject threatened to harm the students physically and demanded money. Fearing for their safety, one of the students gave the unknown individual money. The unknown individual took the money and retreated into the park.

The victims did not sustain any injuries. The NYPD has been notified.

Description of Suspect: The suspect is described as masculine, presenting with a dark complexion.

Be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone.
Walk in groups whenever you can. There is always safety in numbers.
Using a smartphone or other electronic devices, especially with earbuds, can be distracting and may make you a vulnerable target for an assailant.
Trust your instincts. If you feel that you may be in danger, seek out others or an open NYU facility that has Campus Safety Officers posted.
If you are the victim of a crime, do not engage with the assailant as that may put you in further danger.
If you are the victim of a crime, call 911 immediately and then report the incident to the Department of Campus Safety at (212) 998-2222.
