Autumn brings a flush of fresh color to the landscape. Reblooming shrubs and perennials put on a last hurrah for the season, while trees and shrubs don their colorful fall foliage. This is my favorite time to select new plants for the garden. Walking through the garden center I can see the rich autumn hues for myself and pick my favorites, from the ruby-red foliage of Tara® and ‘Semmes Beauty’ Oakleaf Hydrangeas to the fiery red and orange leaves of our DownHome Harvest blueberries. Let’s not forget the fabulous variety of blooms gracing Southern Living Camellias.
Fall is also a great time to plant trees, shrubs, and even perennials in the garden. Cooler days and nights mean less stress on plants, so they can focus on setting down roots. By the time warm temperatures return next summer, your fall-planted favorites will be ready to bloom.
