Acts 14: 24 - 28
24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia, 25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

New International Version (NIV)
“There is no place like home!” said Dorothy as she clicked the heels of her slippers, awakening in Kansas from a dream in the Wizard of Oz. After a week away, I am inclined to agree. It is always good to get home after a time away. Our dogs, like Toto, were especially glad to see us when we arrived.

Paul and Barnabas preached along the way as they headed home. Boarding a ship in Attalia, they headed back to Antioch. Remember Antioch had sent them out with prayer, commissioning them with grace. The grace took! God sustained them by grace and used their message to save many other people by grace. They told the story of how they overcame by grace. Their story was about what God had done and how he had opened the door of faith to Gentiles.

What if our story is all God’s story? Shouldn’t we tell of the great things he has done for us. How has he used us to evoke faith in others. I am inclined to believe we can never outrun God’s grace. Grace will find us, guide us, and lead us home again. Someday, like Bunyan’s Pilgrim, we believers will look back on the experiences of life and see that God’s grace carried us as on eagle’s wings. When we finally get home, we will want to stay a long time. So we shall!

Pray the words of a hymn with me:
Father, we thank you that when we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright-shining as the sun, we’ll have no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
