Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

New International Version (NIV)
                I went with my Heavenly Father to see my mom last week.  Buoyed by the prayers of friends, I made four hour trek to Allen, north of Dallas.   I spent the hours praying and reciting scripture and singing and weeping.  The prayers of my friends carried me on Eagle's wings to the skilled nursing unit where she now lives.  I looked at her name on the door and wondered:  will this be her last address on earth?
                Moms are amazing because in God's design they are the first love we know.  My mom taught me to read the Bible, to sing and to pray.  She fed me and made the suit I wore to my ordination.  This week, it was my privilege to return the favor.  As she is on hospice and draws near to the day when she sees Jesus face to face, I was delighted to read the Bible to her, to sing to her and to pray for her.  It was an unforgettable time of worship.

                Our mom might disagree, but she has never been more beautiful to us.  We remember her making beautiful dresses for herself and matching shirts for me and my brothers.  She taught us to wear our best when we went to the house of the Lord.  Now she is preparing to go to the presence of the Lord herself.  Her beauty now is not in garments she wears but in the beautiful relationship she has with the Lord which she shared with my brothers and me.  When Jesus who called her to salvation calls her home, she will be still more beautiful and were it possible she will make all heaven more beautiful by her presence.

 Pray with me:
Father, we thank you today for men and women who have taught us to love you first and best.  Make us radiant as we look to you today!  As we behold you more and more, help us to become more and more like Jesus today, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
