Dear GW Community,
June is here, and there are several celebrations to observe—including Pride, Juneteenth and Men’s Health Month to kick off the summer season! Also, this month we offer several new well-being Wednesday events and new financial well-being events, a tuition remission information session, and share tips and reminders for using your paid time off. Don’t forget to check out opportunities to connect 1:1 with our benefit vendor partners.
If you have questions about any of the benefits featured in GWell or other benefits programs, please contact us at benefits@gwu.edu.

The goal of Men’s Health Month is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment among men and boys. You can check with your health plan provider such as UnitedHealthcare for a customized checklist of screenings that are right for you. One of the most important steps to maintaining your health is to stay up-to-date on preventative care. It’s easier to treat and manage disease when it’s caught in its earlier stages.
This month, show your body and mind some kindness. Whether you enjoy movement or meditation, try following these tips to bring more attention to your health and improve your well-being. Making lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking can help you stay well and feel good from head to toe.

During Pride Month, we take time to celebrate and reflect on the efforts and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. A large part of accepting ourselves and our loved ones starts on the inside and works its way out. Loving one another and our own uniqueness takes bravery, self-compassion, and self-discovery. Practicing mindfulness and speaking with intention can help our community overcome uncertainty, navigate injustice, live authentically, find inner safety, cultivate joy, and grow resilience.
Pride is an important month for everyone, and our Employee Assistance Program has resources available to support you and those in your family as you navigate life changes and become stronger together. Parents and guardians can also review these helpful conversation starters leading with empathy as a way to encourage your child to open up to you.

| Paid Time Off Reminder
Taking time off to rest and recharge is important for our overall well-being. Taking even a few days can give your body a break from chronic stress that can contribute to anxiety, depression, insomnia and more. Whether you travel on a road trip through majestic parks, discover the vibrancy of a new city, or take time to enjoy your own neighborhood, you’ll create meaningful memories as well as free up mental space for better productivity, creativity, and overall mental health.
With the end of the fiscal year (June 30) fast approaching, we encourage you to check your time off balance and to review the information on carryover allowances in the time off and leave policy, including carryover allowances, so that you can plan to use your well-earned time away.
