Esports is alive and well on Miami University's campus. Students can get involved with esports on campus individually by playing at the Esports Lounge in the Armstrong Student Center or by joining the community we have on campus in the club, intramural program, or, for the top level players, at the varsity level. Esports are a challenging and rewarding hobby that can build community, present learning opportunities, and be a lot of fun!
The esports lounge on campus is free to all students for 20 hours a week. The majority of esports titles are free-to-play, so all students need is to create a relevant game account and start playing. When James Davis, Assistant Director of Esports, was asked about the current state of Esports at Miami, he answered:
"As the top tier first-party tournaments begin to shift their development models, collegiate esports are becoming a more desirable place to be for top-level prospects looking to break through to the top levels of the game. The lessons our students learn here in leadership, communication, graphic design, broadcast production, and social media management are all skills that are desirable both in and outside of the esports business."
More information about the Miami University's Esports is available here.
