It’s been a couple weeks, but we’re still thinking fondly of the wonderful time we had at our annual Children’s Halloween Parade, presented by NYU and Manhattan Community Board 2. Thank you to all the families and community members who joined us. Click here to see photos from the parade.

Tomorrow, we’re excited to host "Poe in New York City," the Fall 2024 Poe Room Event, presented by Lois Rakoff, Community Director of the Poe Room, in partnership with NYU.

For the first time ever, we'll be LIVESTREAMING the event on our Instagram for those who can’t join us physically. Get ready for a family-friendly evening delving into Poe's New York City connections - whether you're in the room or watching from home!

NYU Marron Institute Receives $20 Million to Help Fund Citywide Sustainability Goals

NYU’s Marron Institute of Urban Management will use a $19.9 million federal grant to work with the city on projects supporting new sustainability laws. Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo was founded in 1974 in the wake of the Stonewall Uprising, with the first performances held on the makeshift stage of the West Side Discussion Group’s loft space in downtown New York City. Over its 50-year journey, the all-male drag ballet troupe has grown into the world’s foremost gender-skewering comic ballet company, parodying the conventions of romantic and classical ballet.

Ancient World Digital Library

The Ancient World Digital Library (AWDL) is an initiative of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW) at New York University. AWDL is a publicly available digital library of public domain content on the ancient world. AWDL currently provides digital access to over 400 volumes across subjects such as Egyptology, Assyriology, Papyrology, and Classical Antiquity. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Began as a Veritable Zoo

The first couple years of the parade, from 1924 to 1926, saw handlers marching the route with animals borrowed from the Central Park Zoo. Draped in Macy’s promotional pennants, elephants, donkeys, tigers, camels and bears were paraded down the streets of New York City for the crowd’s enjoyment. However, not everyone was a fan — in 1927, Macy’s decided to replace the creatures with oversized balloon versions, because — imagine this — the live animals scared the children too much.

100th Annual Washington Square Tree Lighting

| Wednesday, December 11, 5:00 - 7:00 PM |

The Washington Square Association proudly invites you to celebrate the 100th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting!

In this much anticipated milestone year, this neighborhood tradition begins December 11th with the community gathering at 5 PM in the area just north of the fountain in Washington Square Park. At that time, everyone will be greeted by festively dressed, storybook and holiday inspired performers. At approximately 5:45 PM, Trevor Sumner, Washington Square Association President, will invite the crowd to the iconic Washington Square Arch for community caroling and the famous tree lighting, promptly at 6 PM.
