Happy first week of UACS programming! We're off to a great start. It was so awesome to see returning students back from the summer, and some new faces, too. We hope to keep enrolling students in the next few weeks, and you can find more information on site-based virtual and in-person programming below.

What's an Access Center? 

Access Centers provide Philadelphia students with a safe place for digital learning when caregivers work outside the home and have no childcare supports. Access Center staff provide meals, activities, and student supervision to K-6th graders across the city. 
The UACS team will be supporting in-person programming at the Kingsessing Recreation Center location. The program is free and registration is required. The application process is first-come first-serve, and families that qualify will be referred to Access Centers based on availability of spaces and parent interest. City-Wide Updates

COVID Alert PA is the official mobile app by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) that uses the Exposure Notification System (ENS) provided by Apple and Google. You can now add your phone to the fight against COVID-19 by going to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and downloading the free COVID Alert PA app to your smartphone. Penn Updates

In a typical year, political science majors Eva Gonzalez and Harrison Feinman would be tabling Locust Walk on behalf of Penn Leads the Vote (PLTV), encouraging passers-by to register. Now in a year where students are more socially distanced than social, co-directors Feinman and Gonzalez are tapping into the Year of Civic Engagement to raise awareness for their nonpartisan cause and further their goal for 100% campus voter registration by 2028. School District of Philadelphia Updates

The School District of Philadelphia will loan a Chromebook to every District K-12 student who needs one, to ensure all students have access to digital learning opportunities while schools remain closed long-term due to COVID-19 response efforts. It will also make digital content available to help students retain, learn and apply skills and strategies with the support of a teacher. The loaner program is free however all devices must be returned once schools reopen.

Three Technology Support Centers are open 5 days/week, Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for families to obtain new Chromebooks, or get help with theirs. Get more information by clicking below.

UACS Nights Goes fall! 

UACS Nights is back with new and innovative classes starting Monday, Oct. 5. While most of our classes will be held on Zoom, our educational nature walks will take place throughout West Philadelphia and will adhere to CDC guidelines. More information will be available on our Eventbrite page as well as Facebook in the coming weeks.

YQCA is Back! 

YQ Coaches and Big Quakers are pumped to be back on Zoom leading  your favorite activities, including lacrosse, track, exercise circuits, team building, and more!

Mark Your Calendars for Give Kids Sight Day! 

This year GKSD is providing care virtually via tele-health, by appointment. Vision screenings will be provided for 475 children from 9-5 on Oct. 10th. Children who do not pass the screening will be scheduled for in-person eye exams, and those who need glasses will receive two free pairs.
