Message from Maggie regarding the Youth Engagement Evaluation Tool:
The Youth Engagement Evaluation Tool is meant to capture youth engagement in a way that the Community Engagement Assessment Tool (CEAT) was not doing. Unfortunately, the CEAT was mentioned in the Summer of '22 by DHS when the MCH objectives were shared out which may be creating confusion on which tool to be using. All agencies should be completing the tool as an agency. If they know they aren’t engaging youth, they can do only the first section of the tool. If they’re engaging youth, we recommend they complete the whole tool. They do not need to share the results with DHS, but do need to report on their identified practice change(s) and progress towards them.

Self-Care Corner

At any time of the year, it can be challenging to slow down. With Summer, it feels like there is so much to do, so much to see, and so much to experience! It's almost like we're all in a great rush to do all of the exciting summer activities in this short period of time. Even when planning fun, we can get overwhelmed. When you can, remember to take a moment to pause and center yourself. We cannot serve others and show up in the ways we want to if we do not tend to our own self-care.

July 4th Fireworks and PTSD

With July 4th quickly approaching and the excitement of tradition in the air, it is important to remind ourselves that fireworks can be triggering to those who have served our country. Let us all be cognizant of the veterans in our lives and what their experience of this celebration may be like. Read more on this topic from the Department of Veteran Affairs along with some best practices for veterans and those who experience PTSD.

Farmer Mental Health and Drought Conditions

According to the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), "Drought has rapidly intensified across the Midwest region over the last five weeks. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 58% of the Midwest is now in moderate to extreme drought (D1-D3), compared to just 8% five weeks ago." With low soil mosture and drought conditions expected to persist, it is important we are checking in with our farmers.

Extension has many resources for farmers on how to manage stress and make decisions during challenging times. As we all know, mental health struggles can be difficult to talk about. Please follow some of the links below to access some resources and make sure to review resources for someone experiecing a mental health crisis.

Event Reminders

Join the Office Hours session on July 13 at 9am - where we will clarify expectations, facilitate discussion, identify related resources, and engage in shared learning around the Youth Engagement Evaluation Tool. Once again, this will be on Zoom. The Zoom link can be found here.

Our September Learning Community Call will take place on Monday, September 25th. It will be here before we know it!
