Arts and Performances

Notre Dame Band’s First 2019 Marchout

The University of Notre Dame Band will kick off its 174th year with a marchout around campus. A traditional campus event ringing in the beginning of a new school year, the marchout will feature both veteran band members and students auditioning for a spot in the 2019 Band of the Fighting Irish.
Thursday, Aug. 22; 9 to 9:30 a.m. beginning outside the Ricci Band Rehearsal Hall, the band plans to march past several Notre Dame landmarks including the Hesburgh Library, Clarke Memorial Fountain, and Grace Hall. The marchout will conclude at Ricci Family Fields.

Snite Salon Series

Join fellow art lovers in the exhibition “‘Looking at the Stars’: Irish Art at the University of Notre Dame,” for an in-depth discussion of one of its works. Guided by the group’s observations and insights, Snite Salons encourage close looking and thoughtful conversation about a different work each session.

Theater: “Sorin: A Notre Dame Story”

“Sorin” stars Anthony Lawton ’89 as Father Sorin in a transformational performance that carries the audience through a journey of faith, character and resolve. From his voyage to the United States to rebuilding Notre Dame from the ashes and more, this play is a window into Father Sorin’s life and the history — and hopeful future — of Notre Dame. Free but ticketed event.

Enrollment Division Closure

The following Enrollment Division offices will be closed for an all-hands meeting: AVP of Undergraduate Enrollment, Outreach and Engagement Recruitment, Pre-College Programs, Recruitment and Communications, Shared Services, and Undergraduate Admissions. 
The offices of Financial Aid and Student Accounts will not be closed.

Undergraduate Student Move-In: Aug. 20-26

Undergraduate students begin moving into on-campus residence halls the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 20. While student move-in will occur continuously through Monday, Aug. 26, a majority of students will move in during the time frames listed below. Heavy congestion can be expected throughout campus, and University departments are encouraged to consider avoiding these times when scheduling deliveries and other operations.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 20: 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 21: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 22: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 23: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 25: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Additionally, the following parking lots will be used to stage cars during move-in, and will be unavailable for faculty, staff and visitor parking during the dates listed above. Please have all vehicles moved out of those lots by 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Smoky Sunday

Our Morris Inn master chefs are firing up the barbecue and smoking some delicious meats for select Sundays throughout the summer. Join us for a special featured menu showcasing everything from smoked chicken legs to grass-fed beef brisket and comfort food side dishes. No reservations required. Opening of the Academic Year Mass and Picnic

Students, faculty, staff and their families are invited to mark the opening of the 2019-20 academic year with Mass in the Purcell Pavilion of the Joyce Center. Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., University president, will serve as presider and homilist. A picnic will follow in Notre Dame Stadium. Dining halls will be closed for the occasion.
